While I would like to offer a massive congratulations to all the authors who have been long-listed, I would also like to do special shout-outs to: AJ Betts, Emily Gale, Will Kostakis, Ellie Marney, Claire Zorn, Trish Doller, David Levithan, Emma Pass and Hilary T. Smith.

Unfortunately I haven't read nearly as many of these as I wish I had (you can click on the green titles to read my review). In fact, many of these have been sitting in my TBR pile patiently waiting for me to shower them with love. I know their time will come. In the meantime, I'd love to hear which ones you love and which ones you are still hanging out to read!

The short-listed titles will be announced sometime in August and the winners will be announced 21st October 2014.

2013 WA Premier's Book Awards Shortlist

Yesterday, the shortlisted books for the 2013 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards were announced.

The competition was open to works published throughout 2012. As usual, I'm just sharing the YA nominees but you can view the all the categories here.

Prime Minister's Literary Awards 2013 Shortlist

2012 CBCA Book of the Year Award Winners!

Today, the Children's Book Council of Australia announced their Book of the Year award winners for 2012.

I am super excited to say that the winner in the Older Readers category was Scot Gardner for
The Dead I Know!


I gave The Dead I Know 4/5 and said,
"I loved The Dead I Know. It was suspenseful, heart-breaking, touching and hopeful."

2012 Text Prize for Young Adult and Children’s Writing

I would like to say a massive congratulations to Perth author AJ Betts, who has won the 2012 Text Prize for Young Adult and Children's Writing, for her novel Zac and Mia!

Zac and Mia is the story of two teens who meet and form a relationship on a cancer ward, but who find life outside the hospital much more complicated.

AJ has previously written Shutter Speed and Wavelength, both published by Fremantle Press.

From the Text website:

The Text Prize is awarded annually to the best manuscript written by an Australian or New Zealander for young adults.

Both published and unpublished writers of all ages are eligible to enter with works of fiction or non-fiction. Judged by a panel of editors from Text Publishing, the winner will receive a publishing contract with Text and a $10,000 advance against royalties.

As some of you have probably noticed, I've been a bit quiet on the reviewing front lately. For this I apologise. General life stuff and the fact that I have started studying again has meant I have had less time for blogging but I hope to fix this situation very soon.

I have some fantastic reviews coming up for The Power of Six, Bloodlines, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Blood Red Road, Hunting Lila, Blood Song, Forever, Days Like This and All These Things I've Done.

In other news, the 2011 Inky Awards announced their short-list today. If you are between the ages of 12 and 20, you can now vote for your favourite book! Voting closes at midnight on October 14th and the winners announced October 25th. Head over to the Inside A Dog website to vote.
